Q&A

wtfdivi014-url4

What devices are we using and what does it test and detect?

Rapid Antigen Test: CareCube is using Sofia SARS Antigen FIA testing kit in association with Quidel. Sofia SARS Antigen kit requires a specimen sample, or swab, from your nose, or nasopharynx. This device conducts qualitative detection of nucleocapsid protein from SARS-CoV-2. That is, the test detects certain proteins only present in a swab sample where Coronavirus is actively present in the host.

Rapid Molecular Test: CareCube operates a  Solana SARS-CoV-2 Assay device in house: an isothermal Reverse Transcriptase – Helicase-Dependent Amplification (RT-HDA) assay.

What does a positive test mean?

If you test positive for Coronavirus you will need to quarantine for 14 days and decrease contact with your immediate family. You may experience some flu-like symptoms; fever, new and persistent cough and shortness of breath. Other symptoms may include but are not limited to headaches, loss of taste and loss of smell. Symptoms of Coronavirus manifest differently in each host. If you have trouble breathing you must visit the ER immediately.

Your healthcare provider will work with you to determine how best to care for you based on your test result(s) along with your medical history, and your symptoms.

wtfdivi014-url4

What does a negative test mean?

If you test negative for Coronavirus you must continue practicing frequent hand hygiene, safe social distancing and wearing a face mask/covering at all times where social distancing is not possible.

Your healthcare provider will work with you to determine how best to care for you based on your test result(s) along with your medical history, and your symptoms.

wtfdivi014-url4

Is the test results with this device dependable?

The Sofia SARS Antigen test is authorised by FDA under the Emergency Use Authorisation Act (EUA) and has met FDA sensitivity, specificity and over all performance characteristics requirements. The results are deemed reliable to assign a patient centered care plan based upon results and testing devices.

What’s the difference between Swab Test & Antibody Test?

Antigen/Swab testing detects proteins present in the nasopharynx usually produced when infected with Coronavirus. This gives diagnostic results of an actively positive or actively negative host. This test is useful as evidence to work or travel that you are positive following symptoms or negative following symptoms.

Antibody testing is a blood test. This test seeks out antibodies produced when your body is fighting off the virus. This indicates you have had coronavirus in the past and your body has had an immune response to the virus, thus the ability to detect antibodies. This test is useful to gauge if you have had the virus in the past. Wether the presence of antibodies indicates some immunity to the virus is still being investigated

What is Molecular test and how it differs from Antigen and PCR testing?

The Molecular RT-HDA test is a diagnostic test that is able to determine if you are currently infected with the Coronavirus. The Molecular RT-HDA Test is more accurate than the Rapid Antigen Swab test and uses the same detection principles as the PCR swab Test. The Molecular RT-HDA test differs from the PCR test only in that it uses enzyme separation methods instead of the thermocycling separation methods PCR testing uses. Utilizing the action of a thermostable helicase enzyme for separation reduces the time required to wait for a result. Due to this we are able to offer a Molecular RT-HDA swab result in 1-9 hours depending on the office location.

wtfdivi014-url4

What are the benefits of the Rapid Molecular Test?

The Molecular test is proven to be more accurate than the Rapid antigen swab test and uses the same detection principles as the PCR test. The rapid result turn around is due to the technique used in the separation step of the HDA process. The molecular test uses the action of a thermostable helicase enzyme instead of thermocycling which drastically reduces time needed to process a sample.
